2006 / Regensburg / Arnulf Square with Central Bus Terminal

The design of Arnulf Square and adjoining city spaces re-integrates the urban square into Regensburg’s historic city fabric.
Particular functional transport requirements including high traffic loads and central bus interchange are resolved without technically encumbering the site. Function, massing and materiality remain background to the city’s urban presence, topography and atmosphere.
The traffic concept and fluid circulation flows past a bus interchange island, upon which a folded geometric shell provides shelter for waiting passengers whilst retaining key axial views to the historic city.
